Prepare for an adventure of limitless possibilities as you build, mine, battle mobs, and explore the ever-changing Minecraft landscape.

Minecraft is a 3D-sandbox game created by Markus "Notch", Persson. It is maintained by Mojang Studios, a part of Xbox Game Studios, which in turn is part of Microsoft.

From its creation, Minecraft was developed almost exclusively by Notch until Jens "Jeb" Bergensten started working with him and has since become head of its development. It features music by Daniel Rosenfeld, Kumi Taka, and Lena Raine as well as paintings by Kristoffer Zietterstrand. The game was originally released as Minecraft Classic on May 17, 2009. The full release took place on November 18, 2011. Since its release, Minecraft has expanded to mobile devices and consoles. On November 6, 2014, Minecraft and all of Mojang Studios' assets were acquired by Microsoft for US$2.5 billion. [6][7] Notch is no longer employed at Mojang.

Minecraft focuses on allowing the player to explore, interact with and modify a dynamically-generated map made of one-cubic-meter-sized blocks. The environment includes blocks as well as plants, mobs, and other items. You can also build, mine for ore and fight hostile mobs. You can also create new blocks and tools through the use of various resources. The game's open-ended model allows players to create structures, creations and artwork on various competitive or collaborative multiplayer servers or their single-player maps. Redstone circuits are used for remote actions and logic computations, minecarts, tracks, and a mysterious underground world called the Nether. A designated but completely optional goal of the game is to travel to a dimension called the End and defeat the Ender dragon.

A new Minecraft world.

One of the two default player characters, called Steve.

The user's player is the person who controls the world. When the user starts a game, the player is put in a world, generated by a random or specified seed, with an empty inventory. If the bonus chest option is enabled, a chest filled with basic items generates near the player. The player has a health bar with 10 hearts and can be damaged by falls, suffocation, drowning, fire, lava, lightning, cacti, sweet berry bushes, magma blocks, falling into the Void, hitting another entity with thorns armor, splash potions, falling anvils and being hit by mobs and other players. You can reduce damage to your health by using armor or resistance potion. Food and specific potions can also be used to restore your health. If the difficulty is set to Peaceful, health regenerates on its own. Hunger can also be a factor, even if the difficulty level is set to Peaceful. It will become more severe over time, and it will get worse if you are running, jumping, or swimming faster. Hunger is replenished by food. However, eating rotten flesh and chicken can cause hunger effects. Depending upon the difficulty level, starvation may cause a player to lose his health and even cause death.

A player can update their skin on Minecraft.net, in the Minecraft Launcher Java Edition, or in the pause and main menus on Bedrock Edition.

A building that was inspired from a Greek acropolis.

Minecraft's world is made up of a three-dimensional grid of cubes. Each cube is occupied with a specific type of block. There are many types of blocks, including natural blocks like grass, stone and minerals that randomly generate within the world. There are also blocks players can craft, such a furnace or crafting table. You can extract resources from blocks either by hand or with tools. Some of these resources are blocks that can be put in the inventory of the player, while others are used to create new blocks or tools. Others yield no practical use whatsoever. Some blocks cannot be broken through normal survival means, e.g. Bedrock, command blocks, command frames, command blocs, nether and portals, barriers, and air.

Mining

You can mine many ores near lava with a pickaxe.

Mining is one aspect of Minecraft. It's used to extract ore from the ground. These ores include copper, iron and redstone as well as coal, iron. Mining can be done from the surface or through a cave. Mineshafts and ravines are places that can be used to find resources. They are often rich in ores.

Crafting and melting

You can create most of the Minecraft blocks and items using a crafting table.

Crafting allows players to create new tools and blocks using items from their inventory. Many subsequent versions include crafting recipes for new items and blocks. To craft, a player can either use the 2x2 grid found in their inventory or the 3x3 grid provided to them by a crafting table. A furnace is necessary to melt iron.

Brewing and enchanting

An Enchantment Table with glyphs being absorbed into it.

Brewing creates potions out of various ingredients and water by using a brewing station. The potion is stored in a glass container and can be consumed by the player, or thrown at other mobs to produce a specific effect. Enchanting is also used to upgrade armor, tools or weapons with an enchanting table or anvil. You can unlock more powerful enchantments by gaining more experience and placing bookshelves near the enchanting tablet.

A creeper hiding in a forest. Creepers follow the player and explode when they get close.

Mobs (short for "mobiles") are the animals and other creatures that inhabit the map. Passive mobs can attack the player, while hostile mobs will attack them. Neutral mobs attack when provoked (not all neutral mobs are provoked the same way).

The Overworld contains many passive mobs that may be killed for food or bred with one another; these include:

Pigs can be ridden by a saddle, holding a carrot on the stick and dropping raw porkchops upon their death. Cows: Drop raw beef upon death. They can be milked by a bucket. Sheep: Drop raw mutton upon death and 1 wool. Sheep can then be sheared to create 1-3 wools. Chickens: After death, drop the raw chicken and feathers and lay eggs. Horses can ride a saddle or drop leather after death. They travel faster than the pigs and can also be used to ride a saddle. Rabbits: Drop rabbit meat, hide, or its foot to make a brewing product. Bats can fly around caves in ambient mobs. Fish: These are passive ambient mobs that drop various items, such as food and bones. Mobs that drop food drop the raw version of their food unless killed while on fire.

Common hostile mobs that are found all over the Overworld include:

Zombies: Attack by melee. Skeletons have infinitely many arrows and a bow. Spiders can leap long distances and climb walls. Witches can use potions. Creepers: explode when near the player. Endermen: are tall and black creatures with purple eyes which turn aggressive when the player looks at them. Some mobs in the Overworld are rarer and spawn only occasionally or in certain biomes, places, or times.

Spider jockeys, a skeleton riding with a spider. gaming

Chicken jockeys: A baby zombie riding a chicken. Slimes: They spawn in the swamplands and deep within the map. Villagers: inhabit villages and can trade with the player. Cats: Can be tamed and can live in villages or in swamp huts. Parrots can mimic the sounds of nearby mobs. Wolves: Can be controlled by the player and can attack enemy mobs if they engage or are attacked by them. Llamas are able to store items and build caravans. Mooshrooms are mushroom-covered cows that spawn within mushroom fields biomes. Vindicators: spawn in woodland mansions. Pillagers spawn in pillager-outposts. Evokers spawn in Woodland Mansions. Phantoms: spawn in the event that the player hasn’t slept within three days. Pandas: They spawn in jungles, but are more common in bamboo forests.

Some can only be found in the Nether, such as:

Ghasts, flying ghosts which shoot exploding flameballs at the player. Zombified porcins: They can wield a golden sword and attack in hordes, if provoked. Piglins: can barter to provide ingredients or blocks. Wither Skeleletons: Tall skeletons that wield stones swords and drop coal. Sometimes, wither Skeleleton skulls can be used to summon an optional boss, the wither. Blazes: Shoot fireballs at players, and hover above ground. Magma cubes can do more damage than Overworld slimes and are similar to them. Striders: These are the only passive mobs that naturally spawn in the Nether. They can walk on lava or be ridden by a warped mushroom on a stick. The End contains the Ender Dragon, which is the main boss mob in Minecraft and allows the player to exit back to the Overworld when it dies.

Withers are the second boss mob in Minecraft and are created by the player by placing wither skeleton skulls on top of soul sand or soul soil in a specific pattern. They can shoot wither skulls at nearby undead mobs while also causing the Wither Effect in any mob they hit.

The Nether

The Nether.

The Nether is a dimension in Minecraft accessible from the Overworld by a nether portal. It consists of five unique biomes, which are the nether wastes, the basalt deltas, the crimson and warped forests and the soul sand valleys. Each biome has unique generation and terrain. It is home to zombified piglins (blazes, ghasts), blazes and ghasts as well as magma cubes, hoglins, piglins, and piglins. The nether also contains nether quartz, nether silver and ancient debris. The Nether also has large oceans of lava that have striders walking on them.

The End

The End.

The End is a dimension in which the player must battle the ender dragon. The End can be accessed by entering an End portal located in a stronghold. End stone is the main ingredient of the End and it is inhabited by endermen. It also has tall obsidian columns on top of which are end stones that heal the ender Dragon. Once the ender-dragon is defeated, the exit portal is placed in the center of your map. An end portal is placed near the edges of your map. This portal transports you to the expansive outer islands. These islands are full of chorus fruit trees and filled with chest loot and shulkers. To access the end gateway portal, you must throw an Ender Pearl. You can also use elytra and trapdoors to get in. There are no ores in the end.

Multiplayer (Java).

PvP is player vs. player on a multiplayer client.

Minecraft multiplayer servers have developed to include their own rules and customs, guided by their administrators and moderators. The term griefer, meaning a player who causes grief, is a typical term on the internet but has taken up its definition on Minecraft servers: a person who destroys or defiles other users' creations on servers.

Griefers are the reason many server administrators make rules, but this has been taken a step further with modifications to the Minecraft server and even plugin-based replacement servers such as Bukkit. Because of these plugin-based servers, new user-created features have shown up in Minecraft. This includes features like money, vehicles, protection, RPG elements and more. These features normally do not require modification to a user's client and can be accessed by using chat commands. To bring up the chat screen, press T.

Spleef, a play on "grief", is a popular multiplayer game. It's a game in which the player aims for another player to fall through the floor by destroying blocks under their feet. This game is usually played in one area and is often run automatically by server plugins.

Many popular multiplayer servers exist that may contain, PvP arenas, custom minigames or large Survival or Creative worlds.

Multiplayer (Bedrock).

Multiplayer in Bedrock Edition differs to multiplayer on Java Edition in that it is centered on a friend system. You can add friends to a world by using the Friends tab or the pause screen. Instead of paying for a server or realm, a player can invite friends to a world. Minecraft has featured servers on Bedrock, which means that they are available when opening the game. There are seven featured servers: The Hive, CubeCraft, Mineplex, Lifeboat, Mineville, Galaxite, and Pixel Paradise.

Minecraft Realms

Minecraft Realms is an official subscription-based server hosting service that allows players to create and manage their own private Minecraft multiplayer worlds. Realms, hosted by Mojang Studios allows for a fast and easy way to create servers. The owner can also manage them from within Minecraft without needing to be familiar with the concepts of hosting on the Internet. However, Realms are not intended for large public servers, but for groups of friends or as a family server. [8] Private Realms servers are easy to set up and available 24/7 as long as the owner pays for it.

Notch with Minecraft: Pocket Edition.

The Bedrock Edition (also known as the Bedrock Platform, Bedrock Codebase or Bedrock Engine) refers to the multi-platform family of editions of Minecraft developed by Mojang Studios and Xbox Game Studios. Prior to this term, as the engine originated with Minecraft: Pocket Edition, this entire product family has been referred to using as "Pocket Edition", "MCPE" or "Pocket/Windows 10 Edition".

Game customization

Add-ons

Add-ons[Bedrock Edition only] are the first step toward bringing customization to all editions of Minecraft and are officially supported by Mojang Studios/Minecraft. They allow players to change the appearance of their worlds, modify the behavior of mobs and add entities, blocks, structures, functions, and biomes.

Behavior packs

Behavior packs [Bedrock Edition only] alter the behavior of vanilla fogs and mobs. They are still being developed and will soon allow you to modify how items and blocks work[citation required].

Officially, the game allows you to change most of its textures, sounds and texts using resource packs. Resource packs must contain a certain structure of files and folders placed in the .minecraft/resourcepacks folder. Installed resource packs, as well as the folder in which resource packs are placed, can be accessed in the options menu. The number of files contained in the resource packs will affect the extent to which resources are modified.

Data packs

Data packs [Java Edition only] allow players to further customize vanilla realms in a similar manner to resource packs. Unlike resource packs, which modify the game's resources, data packs can be used to override or add new advancements, functions, loot tables, structures, recipes and tags without any code modification.

Skins

Skin is the texture applied to a player's model or mob. The skin is divided into sections that define the character's skin surface (for example, the left leg, front head, etc.). A skin can only allow solid color. Transparency is prohibited on the skin file unless on the second layer. Playing offline, pixels may be left free, creating "holes" within the skin. The second layer can also be used to give the character glasses or hats. You can also adjust the arm size to make it slimmer or more normal. The slim variant measures 3 pixels in width, while the normal variant measures 4 pixels.

Java Edition

in Java Edition, there are no special features in the skins. This version includes only the features mentioned in the first section.

Bedrock Edition

There are many options for skin customization in Bedrock Edition. Players can add 3D custom hair, eyes, mouths, arms, legs and more. You can also alter the size of your character. Players can also get many different accessories for the skin. The player cannot purchase custom skins, but only an in-game one. The accessories and skins that players can purchase are also available. A skin that is smaller than usual or larger will not affect the hitbox size. However it can still be an advantage in multiplayer servers, as it may be harder to see. Some skins do not show armor or hand-held objects.

Capes

Capes are a rare vanity item that can be worn on a player's head. In Bedrock Edition, players are given a cape by default. Some skins include capes.

When the player runs, capes can also flail around. When the player equips elytra, the texture of the elytra changes to an equipped cape.

Unofficial mods

Modifying Minecraft can be done by adding Java class file to minecraft.jar Java Edition. Mojang doesn't support custom modifications as it could cause the game to crash if the mod you are using is obsolete, incompatible or conflicting with another mod. These modifications impressed Notch and Jeb enough that they were added to Mojang's game. The authors were also credited under Additional Programming. Mods like Hippoplatimus’ Piston Mod and horses modified by Dr. Zhark are examples of mods that were integrated into the maingame. These mods were included in Beta 1.7, 1.6.1 and 1.6.2 respectively.

Third-party programmes

There are many programs that can be used to create Minecraft. These include 3D maps editors and viewers, game mods, game modifiers, and other informational programs (such a crafting recipes, server wrappers, or other specialty programs). Mojang does not support these, just like mods.
