Game developer Mojang last year unexpectedly announced it was working on Minecraft Dungeons -- a blocky version of the classic dungeon crawlers. We now are aware of the date we can expect it to launch. Initially slated for gaming , Microsoft now says the game will launch on Xbox One, PC, Switch and PS4 in April of next year.

The game is characterized by its distinctive Minecraft style and feel but turns the traditional gameplay of the series around. Instead of letting the players play with their imaginations on a vast, wide canvas, Dungeons is an adventure game, full of quests, characters as well as items and enemies and is played by up to four players online.

Dungeons is a passion project for the small team at Mojang however it's not the only Minecraft spin-off around. Mojang was also the creator of Minecraft: Story Mode, the narrative-driven adventure game which proved pretty popular when it was first launched in 2015.

According to Microsoft's latest trailer, which is a bit hazy, players who sign up on Mojang will have the chance to play Dungeons first. gaming could be a hint of an initial beta before the official launch in April. However, when exactly that launch will occur isn't clear.
