Mojang's Notch is a clever man in game design and management of the company's 20,000,000+ Minecraft players, is an excellent choice. The designer has posted an online poll on his personal blog to determine whether his cuboid constituents would be comfortable with the company collecting different types of anonymized data from its players.

Mojang currently tracks only when a player logs into the game. Notch's plan is to monitor "non-private data" like the length of a gameplay session and your PC's OS, whether you're playing in single or multiplayer mode and whether you're playing via the client or through the web applet. The collected information would then be made available to the community, "as usual."

Notch stated that the data will be transmitted "naturally" anonymously. Minecraft Servers "So it won't include any information about your session or your user name, and it won't send any sensitive information that you wouldn't want to share." To be perfectly honest, we're quite surprised that this kind of data wasn't already being collected. If you're part of the Minecraft nation you can make your voice heard by voting for or against anonymous data collection here.
