The Warner Bros. Minecraft movie has an entirely new director... again. Variety reports that Peter Sollett is now on board to direct and write the long-awaited film that was at one point supposed to be released in May of this year. The film's production has been delayed due to director changes. In the past, Rob McElhenney (It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia) was set to direct the film but he left the project last August. He was also taking the role from Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum) who quit in 2014.

Sollett was the director of Raising Victor Vargas, 2002 as well as Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist (2008). He's also received acclaim for his work on the short film Five Feet High and Rising. Mojang, Minecraft's original developer, is reportedly still involved in the production of the film.

Warner Bros. scored the rights to the Minecraft film in 2014, and the question is now if Minecraft can still pull in the audience it could have years ago. Just another wordpress site It's unclear when the film might be released at this point however, with a director who is now in the saddle for the first time, it could be back on the right path.
