A Rare Version Of Minecraft Is Being Revealed Ten Years Later

More than ten years after its release, a rare early version of Minecraft was believed to have been lost. Minecraft alpha 1.1.1 was released in September of 2010 for the first time in Java Edition. It was only available for three hours. Gaming archive experts have discovered it.



Over the years there have been hundreds on hundreds of Minecraft versions. server lists Fans have meticulously collected and archived a lot of them for preservation. However one particular version, Alpha 1.1.1 or Seecret Saturday, was believed to be lost forever. While it introduced fishing rods and sneaking to Minecraft however, it was found to have a game-breaking glitch that would turn the screen completely gray, so was replaced within a couple of hours by version 1.1.2.



@lunasorcery, via Kotaku and Kotaku, shared the entire story of its re-discovery on Twitter. Luna says that Alpha 1.1.1 was a common meme or holy theophany in Discord Omniarchive's Minecraft archiving Discord Omniarchive. No one thought they would discover it.



Someone stumbled across one of Luna's old tweets and asked her about it. She later discovered an archive of minecraft.jar which was created on the same date as Alpha 1.1.1's release on September 18, 2010. Luna verified that the file was Alpha 1.1.1 and shared the information on Omniarchive, which then went down.



So I posted in Omniarchive and it would be understatement to say that some people were interested.



The reactions are enough to show how huge this find is. I feel like I'm shaking.
